Must be at least 21 years old and have at least a high school diploma or GED. ANGEL RANCH JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECT CARE WORKER (DCW)

Minimum Qualifications:
These minimum qualifications have been agreed upon by the Angel Ranch, Inc. Board of Directors and are based upon a job analysis and the essential functions thereof. All employees of Angel Ranch, Inc. (AR) shall be at least twenty-one (21) years of age, pass a criminal and security check, maintain their personnel file, have at least a high school diploma or its equivalent, be certified in CPR and First Aid, treat all information confidential, and embrace the philosophy, mission, and goals of ARI.

Definition of Class:
This is an exempt position in which the incumbent member of the DIRECT CARE staff provides direct care to AR children under the supervision of the House Manager and Executive Director.

Essential Functions:
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the ARI administration.
Be responsible for the physical, social, and emotional caretaking of AR children during shift.
Demonstrate sound parenting skills.
Treat staff and children with kindness, dignity, and respect at all times.
Work collaboratively with all direct care and administrative staff.
Assume responsibility of guarding confidential information, both written and verbal.
Share confidential information, i.e. child behaviors, personal information, characteristics, observations, and personal attributes, with ONLY the AR House Manager, Executive Director, or representative of MDHS involved in the child’s case.
Do not elicit more information from the child than they are willing to relate but to encourage the child to share with the AR House Manager, Executive Director, or their social worker.
Prepare meals.
Eat with children.
Play with children.
Participate in daily cleaning routine of facility.
Model and expect socially appropriate behavior.
Discipline children, i.e. redirect inappropriate behaviors, and in accordance with DHS policy and procedure.
Direct dressing, choosing of clothing, caring for clothing.
Direct children in chores.
Bathe young children and oversee personal hygiene of adolescents daily.
Assist with homework during study time.
Monitor television programs and television watching daily.
Document interaction with individual children on a daily basis.
Provide necessary statistical information to appropriate AR administrative staff members as requested.
Participate in training in identified areas of need through in-services, workshops or conferences.
Work collaboratively with staff members on problem solving issues for AR.
Perform job requirements in a timely manner as established with supervisor.

Physical requirements:
These physical requirements are not exhaustive, and additional job related physical requirements may be added to these by the agency on an as needed basis. Corrective devices may be used to meet physical requirements. The incumbent shall be required to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. and perform heavy housework. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent shall be required to bend, lift, carry, stand, walk, climb, and reach.

Communication requirements:
The incumbent shall have the ability to give and receive information through speaking, listening, and writing.

Personal characteristics:
The incumbent shall implement and apply all policies and procedures as required by the ARI Board of Directors as stated in the AR Personnel Policies and Care & Services provided during new employee orientation by the Executive Director. The incumbent shall treat all other staff members and all children with respect, reflected in her/his behaviors and attitudes.

Interview requirements:
The applicant shall meet individually with the Executive Director to determine like interests and needs. The applicant may be asked to return for a subsequent interview. At that time, the applicant shall complete the application process.

As of 03/02/06, Direct Care Workers are reimbursed for services at a rate of $8/hour, substitutes at $7/hour.
