Oxford-based home inspection company to help raise funds for local emergency shelter for children
Angel Ranch partners with HomeSafe Inspection to promote home safety…
Oxford, Miss. ? Angel Ranch, a new non-profit organization providing temporary, emergency shelter to abused, abandoned and neglected children, has developed a fundraising partnership with Oxford-based HomeSafe Inspection, Inc. centered around HomeSafe?s annual Home Protection Plan, Sue Turner, Angel Ranch?s executive director, announced recently. A national home inspection company with franchises and licensees in 10 states, HomeSafe performs technologically advanced home inspections and home safety inspection services. The locally owned and operated company utilizes infrared and acoustic technologies initially researched and developed at the National Center for Physical Acoustics at the University of Mississippi. HomeSafe?s Home Protection Plan includes a complete annual ?check-up? for homes, along with a comprehensive child safety inspection and inspections for senior and fire safety.
Angel Ranch will provide a safe and loving environment for abused, abandoned and neglected children who require temporary, emergency placement while in the protective custody of the Mississippi Department of Human Services. ?Shielding children from harm is the number-one priority of Angel Ranch, and every penny we raise will be applied directly to that effort,? Turner said. ?This collaboration with HomeSafe is a perfect fit ? HomeSafe specializes in home safety and home protection measures that affect the well-being of children. Angel Ranch and HomeSafe share a common goal: the protection of children and the general well-being of families.?
The HomeSafe Home Protection Plan begins with a thorough, conventional inspection of the home?s major systems bolstered by an infrared and acoustic scan which ?sees? and ?hears? through the walls, floors and ceilings. The infrared scan uncovers problems that may be invisible to the naked eye: electrical flaws that could cause a house fire; hidden moisture and leaks; structural concerns; heat/energy loss; and many other concerns. The acoustic scan hears termites in the walls and pinpoints their exact location for treatment. The Home Protection Plan?s child safety inspection searches the entire house for specific dangers to children, such as electrical, poison, water and choking hazards. After the initial ?check-up? inspection, HomeSafe provides a detailed, comprehensive Home Safety Inspection report and, for no additional cost, three follow-up inspections over the next year for emergency situations or trouble-shooting.
As part of the Angel Ranch/HomeSafe partnership, Angel Ranch will sponsor ?house parties? featuring safety discussions and a demonstration of HomeSafe?s technology. ?These will be small, intimate events at homes throughout Lafayette County during which we?ll educate the guests on home safety issues and demonstrate the importance of the Home Protection Plan,? Turner said. ?They will receive relevant information to take home so they can implement measures that might save their lives.?
Event participants will be encouraged to sign up for the Home Protection Plan, with 10 percent of all monies raised going directly to Angel Ranch. Because the Home Protection Plan is renewable on an annual basis, Angel Ranch will also receive 10 percent of yearly renewable revenues. ?If we get the participation from the community, we hope to build on our success each year,? Turner explained. ?Anyone who buys the HomeSafe Home Protection Plan at these events is automatically making a donation to Angel Ranch. By renewing the plan every year, they continue to make annual donations to Angel Ranch.?
?The HomeSafe Home Protection Plan is the perfect way for homeowners to maintain the safety and livability of their homes, protect their families and avoid costly damage or injuries,? said Kevin Seddon, president of HomeSafe Inspection. ?We?re excited about the opportunity to work with Angel Ranch, and we think our service, which includes a specific child safety component, fits very well with Angel Ranch?s mission.? Seddon praised Angel Ranch?s commitment to bettering the lives of children. ?This organization is dedicated to helping children who cannot help themselves. No child deserves to be homeless or to live in an abusive or neglectful home situation. We at HomeSafe look forward to playing a role in Angel Ranch?s success.?
The home safety educational events will begin in November and run throughout the year. Costs for the annual Home Protection Plan start at $150 and increase based on the size of the home. Individuals interested in hosting or attending an event may contact Sue Turner at 234-3320.
Ole Miss Kappa Sigma Fraternity - Rebels with a Cause
University, MS - The Kappa Sigma Fraternity at The University of Mississippi heard the call for help from children who could not help themselves. When Ole Miss junior Matt Murray learned that children in our community are abused, abandoned and neglected and need shelter, he shared the need with his fraternity brothers who accepted the challenge to do something about it. With Kappa Sigma President Derek Gillaspy and active committee participation, Murray helped organize Kappa Sigma Diamond Day, a charity baseball tournament to benefit Angel Ranch. On Saturday, September 11, 2004, a beautiful day for baseball, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Phi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Sigma Chi Fraternity and the UPD/OPD/OFD team competed in four fun-filled games with sorority competitions between games. A Diamond Day Court consisting of a representative from Phi Mu, Kappa Delta, Delta Gamma, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Omicron Pi, Pi Beta Phi, Kappa Alpha Theta, Delta Delta Delta, and Chi Omega sororities participated in between-game activities with their sorority sisters. As spectators entered the stadium, they were faced with the difficult decision of voting for a Diamond Day Queen from nine sorority beauties. Fraternities and sororities made donations and recruited support from local businesses…thank you, First National Bank Oxford; Tannehill & Carmean; Cellular South; A.G. Edwards; Neilson’s; Liza Fruge’; Triangle Construction Co.; Denise Woods, CPA; Night Town Billiards; SouthFresh Farms; BankPlus; Allen, Vaughn, Cobb & Hood; and the Ole Miss Golf Club?a special thank you to University and Oxford Police Departments and the Oxford Fire Department for entering the tournament.
Renovations to our house will be made in memory of ATOs William Townsend, Howard Stone and Jordan Williams and in honor of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, who through their own passion for life, their strong belief in helping the under-privileged and even stronger belief in Christ, have exhibited civic responsibility. The participating fraternities and sororities recognized a need in our community and did something to meet it. They have truly opened their doors and invited in the bruised, hungry, and scared children who are knocking on the door of our community asking for help. There is much we can learn from the philanthropic activity in which these Ole Miss students participate. On Saturday, they truly expressed their love for humankind by giving of themselves while asking for nothing in return.
Angel Ranch is overwhelmed with a sense of pride and appreciation for the young people who organized and participated in Saturday’s event. We encourage you to contact the participating organizations and commend them for their generosity and commitment to providing a safe and loving environment for the children in our community who, through no fault of their own, are in need. Thank you, Kappa Sigma Fraternity. You are Angel Ranch’s champion on the Ole Miss campus!
